Dr Rachel Maywald graduated from The University of Queensland in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physiology, incorporating and following on with research laboratory experience looking at perinatal brain development in developing models of schizophrenia. She studied Medicine at The University of Queensland, graduating in 2009. She then undertook her training in Anatomical Pathology at various institutions, including QML Pathology, Mater Health Services, The Royal Brisbane Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and Nambour Hospital.
She also holds a position as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Clinical Medicine, Royal Brisbane Clinical Unit. Dr Maywald was awarded Fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia at the beginning of 2016, and initially worked as a consultant pathologist at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s and the Queensland Childrens Hospital, furthering her experience in gynaecological, paediatric and perinatal pathology.
Joining QML Pathology in 2018, her professional interests are focussed on gynaecological pathology (including placental pathology) and breast pathology, as well as non-inflammatory skin pathology. She was then appointed as Head of Cytopathology in July 2020. Dr Maywald is a member of the Australian Society of Cytology, the International society of gynaecological pathologists and the Australia and New Zealand Vulvovaginal society.
